"Riparian Buffer". Completed for Surface Research. Fall 2022. approx. 5' 4" x 3' x 2'. Cardboard, paper mache, ink on rice paper, dowel rod.
This assignment was inspired by the Oregon Hill Halloween Parade held by All The Saints Theater Company. Our theme was "urban and natural resilience in the face of ecological change". This work represents how riparian buffers, the vegetation growing alongside a river, help to filter pollutants, absorb excess nutrients and help mitigate floodwaters, meaning they are an essential component of our resilience to climate change. For extra credit, we were encouraged to finish our projects early and participate in the Halloween parade, which I did.
